Shipping and Admiralty
We have experience in the full gamut of shipping disputes ranging from charterparty disputes to demurrage claims to off hire claims. We regularly advice clients on GENCON, NYPE and ASBATANKVOY charters.
We are also instructed on ship arrests, both by the arresting party as well as the shipowner seeking to release their vessels from arrest.
International Trade and Commodities
In our international trade practice, we often advice our clients on disputes arising from international sale of goods. We have advised on transactions arising from various types of commodities including coal, iron ore, nickel as well as liquid cargo like gasoil. Our international trade practice ranges from advising clients on disputes arising from the sale and purchase agreement, demurrage claims, trade finance disputes as well as the carriage disputes.
We have acted in a number of international arbitrations in Singapore, Hong Kong and London. On top of acting as counsel in international arbitrations, our Joseph Tan also receives appointments as arbitrator and is a panel arbitrator on the SCMA panel, as well as a supporting member of the LMAA.
Our company law practice includes advising on shareholder disputes and on directors’ duties. We also advised on company insolvency matters and have received appointments from liquidators to advice the company under liquidation, as well as to advice on the realization of assets, in particular, ships and other marine assets.
We regularly advise both employees and employers on their respective rights and obligations and have assisted companies to prepare contracts of employment. We also handle employment disputes cases involving wrongful dismissal, discrimination, data protection and restraint of trade.
Family and Probate Practice
We have assisted clients to extract grants of probate and letters of administration and have handled both contentious and non-contentious probate matters involving cross-border elements. We also regularly receive requests from clients to advice them on asset planning and to assist in the preparation of wills and lasting powers of attorney.
In the context of family matters, we handle both contested and uncontested divorces and strive to be a guiding hand for clients in trying times. We have also advice on matters in relation to the adoption and guardianship of children.
